About Us

Melissa Cooper is a therapist, Licensed Master Social Worker (#65029), and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (#14795).  Melissa received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Woman’s University and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.  Melissa specializes in addictions, with an emphasis in relationships, trauma, depression, and anxiety. 

Melissa has over eight years of personal and professional experience in 12-Step Recovery and is well-versed in assisting people with relationship issues. She is a Basic EAGALA Certified Professional and is skilled in using equine-assisted learning with clients.  She also completed the Fundamentals of Natural Lifemanship training where she learned about Trauma Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy to assist clients experiencing trauma based dysregulation, relational dysfunction, and maladaptive behaviors.  Melissa completed the EMDRIA Approved EMDR Therapist Training Program through Compassionworks.  Melissa also completed training in the Ten Core Competencies of Trauma, PTSD, Grief & Loss and Evidence-Based Trauma Treatments & Interventions taught by J. Eric Gentry, Ph.D., LMHC and Robert Rhoton, PsyD, LPC.   

Melissa worked at an inpatient program in Denton as a lead therapist and provided individual, family, and group therapy working with adults coping with chronic mental illness and addictions.  She also has experience in and enjoys working with adolescent girls in need of assistance improving their self-esteem and empowering them to achieve their goals.

Melissa has been married for 25 years and has one daughter who is in college.  Melissa is an animal lover and has two horses, three dogs, and a cat.

Melissa is under clinical supervision with Megan Coit, LCSW.
